About Us

Learning through play!

The Quiet room

At Hollingbury Park Playgroup we offer a nurturing environment where children are free to learn and grow. We believe children thrive in a calming caring environment where they are free to choose what they would like to do with their day. We encourage child initiated play but also offer adult lead activities to stimulate their development which all of the children can take part in. At Hollingbury Park we follow the Early Years Curriculum where every child matters.

We have key worker groups which each child will be assigned to. At Hollingbury Park we try not to focus on staying in our key groups as we feel all children should be able to play with each other no matter their age and stage but there will be a key worker that your child will be assigned to, who will observe your child, post observations, photos and videos. They will also be available for you to speak to when ever you would like as well as all other staff members.

We also offer small groups and 1-1 sessions for children who may need mor ehelp with their development and SEN children.

We are very proud of our achievements and provide a fantastic environment for every child to feel safe. We are a non-profit making charity, and therefore all money made is reinvested in the playgroup, all for the good of the children. Our new building is purpose built and we have been involved in making decisions about the design to suit our needs with the help of the Brighton and Hove Early Years team. The new building has been opened since January 2011. It offers a very large open plan room which we cover all of the seven areas of learning. It also has full sliding doors to the garden. This creates a fantastic free flow choice for the children to play in or outside. The outside area is fantastic as it is very large and has a grass area with climbing equipment, obstacle courses and areas of learning but also a tarmacked area where the children enjoy riding the bikes and cars. We have two bunkers around two of our trees, one being an apple tree which the children love to watch grow and the other having a mud kitchen and a small hut surrounding it. We also have a sensory garden down the side of the building which is where we plant flowers, fruit and vegetables. We also have lots of plants which create brilliant smells for the children to enjoy.

The building also has a separate smaller room which we call the quiet room. We use this for circle time, story sharing, music and movement and sensory play etc...

We also have a nappy changing facility, 4 small children's toilets and sinks which offer very easy access for the children and we have disability access and a disabled toilet in the building.
